The Team
“Our work is as reactive as it is proactive.”
Sarah Jones
Director + Founder
After graduating with a B.A. (Hons) in Public Relations from Leeds in 2000, Sarah honed her communication and media skills over the following nine years, working for some of London’s biggest consumer PR agencies at the time including Consolidated Communications, QBO Bell Pottinger and Resonate.

Starting out in travel PR, Sarah worked for buzz airlines, Excel Airways, Budget Rent-a-Car, Holiday Autos. Diversifying into other sectors, clients then included Muller Dairy Ltd, Vauxhall Motors, Disney, The Ideal Home Show, Hamleys, Pizza Express, MTV Pimp My Ride and Masterfoods (Galaxy).

In this time Sarah headed up the consumer team that launched Muller Dairy’s children’s yogurt range Little Stars and was part of the consumer team behind the launch of Masterfoods Galaxy Promises line of chocolate.

Sarah left the corporate world of PR eleven years ago when she moved to East Sussex.

In between leaving London and setting up Wilderness PR, Sarah was behind the only positive story that came out of the notorious Andrew Mitchell ‘Plebgate’ scandal that hit the news five years ago. Whilst working for Kenyan children’s charity Nyumbani UK, Sarah persuaded the charity’s Chairman to ask ex-chief whip Andrew Mitchell to auction his bike on eBay with all proceeds raised going to the charity.

Sarah orchestrating and PR’d the campaign that generated over 150 pieces of worldwide press coverage, caused a ‘Twitter Storm’ and most importantly raised £10,600 via the one week eBay auction. Examples of news coverage secured by Sarah at the time can be read here: The Independent, The Telegraph, The Mirror

Prior to that, Sarah secured editorial for Nyumbani in key press, including a full page three story in the Telegraph on Royal portrait painter Richard Stone who was a patron of the charity at the time. This can be read here.

Sarah’s ongoing work for Real Sussex cidery Bignose & Beardy has helped create lots of ‘noise’ about the brand in UK craft cider industry. Her work is helping put Sussex cider on the map, not just on a local level, but nationally. Bignose and Beardy were recently (very) proud winners of the ‘Sussex Food and Drink Producer of the Year’ award at the Celebration of Sussex Life Awards.

The brand has also won a Muddy Stilettos award this year for 'Best local food/drink producer' and were the South East finalists for last year's Rural Business Awards.

After months of pitching, Sarah secured client Camp Kernow onto BBC1's Countryfile this year. John Craven presented the seven minute segment that was shown to an audience of 6.5 million, with a 23% share of the TV watching audience at that time.  She has also secured editorial in top parenting magazine Smallish, two articles in Sunday Express’s S magazine, Angels and Urchins, Absolutely Mama magazine, Flybe airline’s inflight magazine Flight Time, Essential Surrey and icoolKid.com. WPR also secured Camp Kernow in a Sunday Telegraph round-up on the UK’s top three children’s residential summer camps that generated a flurry of bookings.

Even though Wilderness PR is based in East Sussex, Sarah is used to working with companies all over the South including London companies and brands who don’t want to pay big London PR agency fees.

Totally believing in the power of print, Sarah is also up to date with digital communications including Social, combining online and offline in all the work she does.

Sarah works with all press and media including local and national online and offline, and broadcast. She works with Sussex media on a regular basis. She never relies on contacts to secure stories, but is well connected in the media world and has good press contacts that have built up over the years.

She can offer media support for local and nationwide launch campaigns, provide ongoing press office functions, proactive media relations, crisis management, copy writing, event organising as well as strategic social media work.
